Requirements

● Configurationfilemigrationisgenerallyrecommendedonlybetweenappliancesofthesameversion

● ConfigurationfilecompatibilitybetweendifferentGSAversionsisnotguaranteed,andifperformed,

configurationsshouldbeverifiedtoensureallsettingsareincluded.

Approach

Thefollowingstepsdescribetheapproachofmigratingasearchappliancebyconfigurationfiles:

1. ExaminetheGSAversionofthe“target”GSAandcheckreleasenotesofthisversionandofany

laterpatches,forissuesthatmayaffectthedeploymentenvironment.UpdatethetargetGSAtothe

appropriatepatchifnecessary.

2. Exportconfigurationfile(s)fromexistingGSAandimportthemintothenewappliance.Ifthesource

andtargetGSAsoftwareversionsarethesame,theoverallGSAconfigurationfilecanbeexported

andimported.Ifnot,choosevariouscomponentsoftheadminconsoletoexport(eg.frontendXSLT

orcollectiondefinitions).

3. [optional]Iftherearefeedclientsorconnectorsinuse,newinstancesofthefeedclientsor

connectorsneedtobesetupwiththetargetappliance,toindexallcontent.

4. [optional]Ifitiscriticaltohavefreshcontentinproductionsystemandthecontentserverscantake

onextraload,theexistingapplianceshouldbekeptcrawling.Iffreshnessisnotcritical,pausethe

crawlontheexistingapplianceandanyconnectorsorfeedclients.

5. Allowthenewappliancetocompletelycrawlandindexallcontent.

6. [optional]Ifaproductionbackupapplianceisinuse,enablemirroringandsetupthealready

configuredapplianceasthemaster,andthenewproductionbackupasthereplica.Letthereplica

syncto100%.

7. Cutovertonewappliance(s)anddecommissionoldappliance(s).
